Our Drywall & Finishing Process
A flawless wall doesn’t happen by accident. Our multi-stage process is designed to eliminate every imperfection before it ever sees a coat of paint.
Step 1: Site Assessment & Scope Definition
Before a single sheet of drywall is cut, our team walks the space with you to identify structural conditions, moisture concerns, and finish requirements. We document everything — existing textures, substrate conditions, and your desired end result — so there are no surprises mid-project. This upfront clarity is what separates a smooth renovation from a frustrating one.
Step 2: Drywall Installation & Fastening
We select the correct drywall panel type and thickness for each application — moisture-resistant board in bathrooms, fire-rated assemblies where code requires, and standard or lightweight panels elsewhere. Panels are precisely cut, hung to minimize seams in critical sightlines, and fastened to manufacturer and industry specifications. Proper installation at this stage is what makes every subsequent step possible.
Step 3: Taping, Bedding & Multi-Coat Finishing
All seams receive fiberglass mesh or paper tape embedded in the first coat of joint compound. We apply a minimum of three coats — a tape coat, a filler coat, and a finish coat — allowing proper dry time between each application. Each coat is feathered progressively wider to eliminate ridging, and inside and outside corners receive the reinforcement and precision they demand.
Step 4: Block Sanding to Level 5 Standard
This is where most contractors stop short — and where we separate ourselves. After finish coats cure, every surface is block-sanded to a flat, consistent plane and then receives a skim coat of joint compound applied over the entire surface. This final skim coat fills any remaining tool marks, suction spots, or micro-imperfections left by sanding. The result is a surface that meets the full Level 5 standard: smooth, uniform, and ready to accept any paint or coating without telegraphing what’s underneath.
Step 5: Final Inspection, Client Walkthrough & Make Ready Cleanup
Before we consider a project complete, we conduct a critical-light inspection — using raking light at low angles to expose any surface variation invisible under standard lighting. Any imperfection we identify gets addressed before you see the wall. We then complete a thorough Make Ready cleaning of the finished space — removing dust, debris, and any residual compound from surfaces, fixtures, and floors — so the space is clean and ready for paint, occupancy, or the next phase of your project. We walk you through the finished space and don’t leave until you’re satisfied with every surface.
